The music industry is an exciting and rough road to get to. There are many
challenges just like any other job. One problem is that too many focus on just
making music but do not give anytime to market themselves. How are you suppose
to get noticed for your music if you are not selling yourself to the people?
This is very important if you want to achieve your dream for being a music
producer.
The number one step is to get organized. Make sure everything is in place,
so you can find it easily. If you have done business with someone in the past,
make sure it is in your records. Make sure you have an email for your business
and make sure you have folders that have been labeled so you can stick your
important clients in them. You will need to eventually follow them up. It is
always important to maintain a good relationship with your clients, so they
keep coming back. You can not run a successful business if you are disorganized.
The next step is to get business cards. You never know who you will run into
these days. You don't miss potential clients. Maybe there will be an amazing
singer on karaoke night at your local bar that would like to work with you.
Always keep them with you at all times.
Networking is another great way to market yourself. You might want to have
a Facebook, MySpace, twitter, etc... account for your business. If you do this,
do not put your personal life on your business account. This can make your
potential clients see you as not as serious about your business and might not
want to work with you. You need to keep it as business only! Plus, networking
can help you get into the game. The more people you know, the more opportunities
you will see. If there are certain companies you are trying to send your music
to, all you need to do is do some research on the web and usually you will
find the information that you are looking for.
Another great way is to create a web site for your business. You can also
sell your music on there. Once you have done that, then it is time to do SEO.
By doing this, you can move your web site in the rankings so more people will
see your web site. You can pay a company to do SEO or you can also do it yourself.
There are a lot of great books and articles out there that will help you get
started with that.
You can create great music everyday, but if you do not market yourself, then
you will never get anywhere with your music. If you do these things such as
be organized, have an email, business cards, network, have a web site and do
seo, you will see better results with your business. Of course, you will need
to make sure your patient. This will not happen over night and may take many
months just to see some results. If it is something you are passionate about,
don't give up and keep going. You will finally succeed as long as you keep
doing the things you need to do in order to succeed.
