The Jimmy Clip was born out of a desire
to tighten up one's Guitar sound without having to use makeshift devices
or tape on the Instrument.
Guitarist Jim Robbins was tired of putting Gaffer / Fader tape on both his headstock
and behind the bridge of his Guitars to eliminate what he refers to as 'string
ring'; that 'chime - like sound' that goes on after the playing has stopped.
This is commonly encountered by high gain / detuned / 7 and 8 string Guitarists
as well as more traditional Guitarists who utilize a more percussive playing
style
"People are wasting time and money in the Studio
editing out the 'chiming' in the Guitar tracks as to tighten up the Guitar
parts. It also adds to the unnecessary noise of a Live performance; and
makes the Guitar parts sound kind of loose in general. Putting tape all
over the Instrument; tying various pieces of cloth around the neck; or
shoving foam under the strings does help; however it doesn't exactly
look very Professional; either."
After years of Touring; recording; and working with other Guitarists and Engineers
in the Industry; he realized he was far from alone in the ritual of silencing
that sound. Inspiration hit..
He developed a Device / Technique called "The Jimmy Clip" to greatly
reduce the 'string ring' without having to alter the actual Instrument. It makes
Guitar performances sound 'tighter' and clearer. It's discreet; yet aesthetically
pleasing; highly effective and easy to Install. In fact; it doesn't fasten onto
the actual Instrument - only the strings; thus keeping the Instrument's original
Integrity - and value - intact.
"The Jimmy Clip silences the 'chime'; while not altering the look; feel;
or Sustain of the Instrument. It is purposely designed to 'blend in' - as though
it is part of the original Instrument; while at the same time insuring that
it is safe to Install / Operate on the Instrument as to not damage or Alter
the Instrument's original condition."
"It cleans up any and all unwanted artifacts that can be amplified while
playing at low or high volumes."
"Sometimes the simplest ideas make all the difference in the world. This
is one of them."
