the Chris Alvy Band

Musical Inside Job

The Chris Alvy Band captures the vintage 70’s rock sound and combines it with an alternative edge. Classic Rock influences such as the Beatles, Bowie, The Beach Boys, Hendrix, and Jellyfish, seamlessly pervade their music. The group’s songs convey a new hipness and stylistic flair that give them their own niche in today’s rock & roll landscape.

The creative force behind The Chris Alvy Band is singer/songwriter Chris Alvy. Alvy has been a mainstay in the Florida music scene for the last decade. Fronting bands like “Beyond Salvation” and “Hi-fi Sister” along with a few solo projects, he has managed to make a name for himself throughout the state. Alvy has opened up for classic bands such as Living Colour, Foghat, Humble Pie, Grand Funk, Boston, Warrant, and The Smithereens, and has played large festivals such as Sunfest in West Palm Beach, FL. Alvy has released 4 full-length albums and has generated over 10,000 independent sales via his relentless performing and touring.

Alvy is also a prolific songwriter who has managed to develop a unique blend of vocal and songwriting style. This style is not only confined to his American songs. He has also managed to incorporate these skills in the Spanish music market, placing his songs with various notable international artists such as Chayanne, Hector Rojo, and Rocio Diaz. Alvy currently shares a close relationship with SONY ATV PUBLISHING as a songwriter for their artists. His publishing company, POP TRASH PUBLISHING, is also administered by them.

Chris's biggest musical inspiration aside of his dad, who literally was the one who introduced him to all this great stuff from the 60's and 70's, would have to be bands like THE BEATLES,DAVID BOWIE,THE STONES,THE BEACH BOYS,THE ZOMBIES, etc. Says Chris "There are simply too many to mention..just good songs, with good chord changes and lots of melody and vocal harmonies. I have always been a sucker for those. I try to keep that game plan when I write,.try to make it timeless. "

don't analyze it or question it

On the Chris Alvy Band debut record “ART NOISE ” released under FORWARD MOTION RECORDS, you will find songs driven by a combination of big guitars and well crafted melodies and harmonies that defy the norm in today’s rock and roll circles. “ART NOISE” is a an effort that really showcases the band’s ability to combine interesting musical twists with commercial sensibilities. It leaves listeners and audiences with memorable hooks that they will be humming for days. The record delivers an enjoyable listening experience reminiscent of the days when people bought records to listen to them in their entirety, not just for one or two songs.

When asked about the songwriting process Chris replys, "I don't use a formula to write my stuff, but if I had to break it down, most of the time it is chords and melody that I want to pursue further if it sounds interesting to my ears, .and along the way certain words pop up or phrases that compliment whatever it is I am playing. Sometimes i have written a poem/or just sentences that make sense and have become songs. I truly don't know or even try to know where the stuff comes from. I am thankful that I have and always had this urge or anxiety maybe to write and create, not so much in the different arts, but in music specifically.I don't analyze it or question it.. I am just happy it's there. Our recording process is extremely quick. I tend to go for emotion/performance and energy, so we are not perfectionists. Fernando Perdomo, who really is responsible for us making this music the way it is has had a huge influence on what is heard. There's a fine line in over doing things. That's never been my gig, and I think fernando holds true to that also. We like our music natural and human, not processed. That's why I believe our band works so well, and this music works so well also. What you can expect on our latest tunes, I like to believe is lots of emotion and passion musically and lyrically. On my CD there are moments of anger or frustration but also moments of reflection and joy. We are very lucky that we do what we do, our band, though relatively new as far as playing together is an extremely tight team. I am proud of that..we try to do music from the heart ."

Chris admits to having had many great experiences in this music biz fiasco...but for now this current record, band and songs are his best experience. He doesn't dwell on past success or failure, "I tend to always look forward and this record and band is what has my attention at the moment., so this is my proudest moment, working and writing with Fernando Perdomo, Darrell Killingsworth, Todd Taulbee, Ana Valenzuela and myself...this is what I breathe and live now, and I like to live in the now, the past will be another interview also". When asked he said that he can't say he has bad experiences in the music industry. Never been one for excuses, he can say he has been frustrated at times with the music industry and his role in how it affects him as a performer and songwriter. But overall he feels He is still here, feels relevant and the music he does , he believes is relevant to what's going on at the moment. So there are not any complaints or blame placed as of yet; "I love creating something out of nothing and even more I like it when whatever what we create affects lives or stirs up emotions in people. I feel very blessed to be be able to do that. If I hated  it I would not do it, I am a Songwriter and Performer, that is my life and livelihood and my lifeline. Without it, I can't breathe, I am dead." Chris loves creating something out of nothing, and even more likes it when whatever what they create affects lives or stirs up emotions in people and feels very blessed to be be able to do that.

Rock and Roll is Alive in Miami

This artist would like to see good music exposed to the masses. He believes that everyone is fed a certain menu, and with that being said that menu needs a fresh makeover. "People buy what you feed them in radio and if that's all they hear, then that's all the sales you will see, but I don't have the answer to fix that, I only have our band with which I know we can control one fan at a time and that makes me feel like we have some control over the disaster the music biz has unfortunately become."

Chris see the business moving hopefully to bands like his that are not fabricated or out of American Idol etc. Not quite sure yet but leaning more towards generating his money touring. Albums sales are dropping daily and acts like The Chris Alvy Band survive on the road. So maybe that's their fate as of now, as it seems that's where most bands lately are moving towards.

The Chris Alvy Band is very excited about the upcoming year and look forward to performing and promoting to as many people as possible. The plan is to make them aware that there are still bands like Chris's that do real rock & roll independently.and with some integrity. They are planning a Jan/Feb tour of FLA., and will be returning to L.A. a second time in less than a year to do some shows there in February also. They were there a few months ago doing THE INTERNATIONAL POP OVERTHROW FESTIVAL, along with some other shows they had booked. Just continuing to really just expand as much as they can to get the music to the people. The only way to get it out is to be out there doing it.

That's always been Chris's philosophy....no shortcuts....
