Alan Vine, a genuinely
talented musician, including bassist, pianist and composer,
created the unique original band of brothers named “The
Lived” almost a decade ago. Beginning modestly
in L.A. and quickly moving to the fast paced nightlife
of Las Vegas, Alan and his friends tackled the competitive
music scene head on. Awfully ambitious, Alan set his
sights of The Dive Bar, which he calls the ‘CBGB’’s
of Las Vegas. Reluctant to their anonymity at first,
the owner wanted to know if they had a following before
booking them. Alan cogently convinced the owner to
put them on Tuesday nights, the slowest night.
The
crowd continued to cultivate as word of mouth swiftly
spread. “Before you knew it, Tuesday nights were
better than a Friday or a Saturday at the Dive Bar”,
Alan remembers fondly.
After their sustained success as weekend
warriors in Sin City, Alan eventually relocated “The
Lived” to Florida for family reasons. He admits
that the band has gone through many member replacements,
but he has always kept the sound he wanted. When I sought
the story as to what that ‘sound’
is, Vine insisted that he couldn’t pigeonhole one type
of music that influences him or that he builds the band around.
He just wants and likes ‘a good song’.
Post some
prolonged prying, he professed to enjoying ‘70’s
music and said there has never been music like it since. |

piano and start of writing music
While living as a skilled
bass player in L.A., Alan encountered some motivation in the
form of a psychedelic substance which propelled him to acquire
a piano and start writing music. Since then, he has continued
to write, arrange and produce songs. His team of ‘talented
players’ also includes Todd 1 (Alan’s brother)
on drums, Todd 2, bass player and Supersonic on guitar. The
name of the band, “The Lived” is ‘The Devil’
backwards, although Alan asserts that there are many meanings
to the moniker, including living a long, good life. His creative
process entails a mix of a quiet room, weed and dabbling on
the piano. Then comes the core progression and looping as
he reflects on an event in his life that he wants to create
a song around.
Upon returning to Florida to take care of his sons, Alan joined
the successful rock band “Soulicide”. He describes
this as a great experience with amazing people. Ultimately
though, he knew he wanted to commence performing with “The
Lived” again. They have already released an EP that
they sell at shows and another CD will follow in late March.
They are also going to shoot a music video for “Your
Soul I Want to Claim”. Their first big concert will
be March 4th at Will Call in Miami and until then, check out
their Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/TheLived
Alan lives for live audiences, particularly preferring any
new assemblage, calling them “The Lived virgins”.
He loves how often people come up to him after a show
and shake his hand saying “I never would’ve
expected that”. The future? More shows, more
recordings and “I
want to walk across the stage and accept a Grammy for my
music”.
Well, according to Voltaire: “You must have the devil
in you to succeed in the arts.”
